An accident at the biochemical lab has released a neurotoxin, and you've been quarantined after exposure. Maintain your sanity by playing a card-matching game.

The table is littered with 10, 20, 36, 52, or 72 face-down cards. Flip two cards, and if they show the same emblem, you keep them. If they don't, flip them back.

Flowing Palette Demo is exactly what is says :)

After days of non-stop work on this, I think it's ready for some exposure (no source yet, as it's still not cleaned up as much as I'd like). NTSC only:
http://blargg.parodius.com/nes-code/flowing_palette.zip
It works beautifully on my NTSC front-loader NES. I'm not sure it'll work on emulators; if someone has a PowerPak and can verify that an emulator matches what you see on your NES, please post which emulator you used.
All graphics are generated by manually setting $2006 and $2007. After initialization, all code is cycle-timed, as this is the only way to get a stable image with this technique. I had been working so many days non-stop on this that I wanted to go ahead and release it, before I got the new PPU timing technique working that will eliminate the need for cycle timing everything, since that will require a big rewrite.

Dan Weiss aka Dwedit wrote us via E-Mail about his Chu Chu Rocket remake for NES!

Now this deserves some respect! Let's hope the development will go on! Also keep in mind there are various NES emulators for various systems, so you can play it almost everywhere!

There is no sound or music yet.
It does not yet keep track of which levels you have cleared.
Puzzle mode is basically complete.
Stage Challenge mode isn't finished:
* Missing the 30 second time limit
* The 100 mice and Cat Soccer levels don't do anything.
There is no multiplayer mode yet.
The layout of screens and such is subject to change. Can anyone design better looking "Stage Cleared!" windows?
Controls:
* Start or A: Confirm or select something
* B or Select: Cancel or go back
Puzzle Mode:
* A + Arrow: place an arrow, replace an arrow, or pick up an arrow
* B: Take back the latest placed arrow
* Select: Quit, or return to puzzle mode if the game is running.
* Start: Set the game in motion! Also toggles double speed mode while the game is running.
Stage Challenge:
* A + Arrow: place an arrow. You can only have 3 on at a time, and can not place arrows on top of another. Arrows last for 10 seconds before they expire.
* Select: Quit
Emulator Compatibility:
Works great in FCEUX, Nintendulator, Nestopia, VirtuaNES, QuickNES, Mednafen.
Now this deserves some respect! Let's hope the development will go on! Also keep in mind there are various NES emulators for various systems, so you can play it almost everywhere!

D-Pad Hero is a series of rhythm/music games for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
.jpg)
D-Pad Hero pays homage to the teams own favorite NES games and popular music artists. It's their vision of what music games might have been like in the NES heyday.
Make sure to also pay attention to D-Pad Hero I! If you do not have a real NES anymore, or you simply don't have the hardware to use the game on the real thing, make use of an emulator! This way you can also enjoy the game on other consoles such as Pandora, Wiz, GP2x, GP32, NDS, etc...
Thanks to Kent for the news via E-Mail!

Jaffe is working on a remake of Chips Challenge for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It's in early stages and could not be really called a game yet, but it's the second preview which he made public via the NESdev boards. You may want to have a look at it and motivate him to continue!

Back in 2007 "No Carrier" created Vegavox for Alex Mauer. Long out of print, it was the first NES album ever released on a cart. Now you can do the same.

VegaPlay is an open source multi-song NSF playback ROM. It will work in Nestopia (see above) and other NES emulators. It has also been tested on NTSC NES hardware and a Subor famiclone using both EEPROM development carts and the RetroZone PowerPak.
Up and down cycle through the songs. The default number of songs is 10. However, this can be changed. See the source code for details.

scrollNES is a tool to display scrolling text on the NES. The large font is created dynamically by reading character data from a single file and representing each bit as a tile in the background. The ROM has been tested to work in Nestopia, FCEUX, and actual NES hardware via the PowerPak.

Tall Pixel demonstrates a way to stretch still images vertically by a factor of 3/2, using mixed $2006/$2005 writes and timed code, so that the CHR data for your cut scenes takes 33% less space.
Tested on FCEU Karmic and on an NTSC NES + PowerPak.

Damian Yerrick, aka tepples, has released an update to his game LJ65, formerly known as Tetramino.
.png)
It's a very well known classic puzzle concept, which goes after a popular Russian block game. LJ65 allows two players and has tighter play control compared to possible commercial variants.
Changes:
The release is from May 2009, which we managed to not spot in time. NES stuff is pretty rare, so better late than never ;)

The game does NOT work on hardware yet, but can be played on Nester or VirtuaNES (and probably other emulators).
For those who might experience problems with the Chinese download page and can't figure out how to download, here is the easy way: http://pdroms.de/files/2234/

Lickshot is an open source sampler for your NES! You can play back 4 unique DMC samples and raise and lower their pitch. It comes with laser, air horn, and vocal samples - but you can add your own, too. Of course it is inspired by dub sirens and and sample boxes in dub and dancehall!
